Syntax -n- Stuff

Wow. I've forgotten how ugly a language can be. :-) (That's my new smiley icon, get used to it.) I've gotten my hands on DJGPP and am now pulling my hair out as to why I can't *run* any tiny snippits of code that I write. I can get them to compile, but not run.

Just so that we're all on the same page, let me detail for you my history of coding. It can be summed up pretty much in four words: Years of Turbo Pascal. That's right. I learned most of what I refer to as programming theory through Pascal. Got an award for it in High School, and even went on to code (partially) a door game or two, not to mention an assload of DOS utilities and goodies. Me and C++ just never got along. I'd learned so much in Pascal that it was tough to make the transition to C++. Header files are a completely different sort of animal compared to TP's Units. And there's this whole thing about Projects and Makefiles... Don't get me wrong, I've read alot of books on C++, and I understand the syntax (mostly). I can read a program and understand what it does and make modifications. But starting a program from scratch is a daunting task for me.

To further complicate things, I learned everything in good ol' 16-bit Turbo Pascal. The Visual (Windows) environment is a completely different world. I've done a bit of VBA programming in MS Access 97, so I'm a *tiny* bit prepared for that.

Anyway, I've been reading alot of sites about coding and I'm anxious to start making working again. I'm also bound and determined to learn 3D Studio Max (or some other modeller). But hey, what are New Year resolutions for?

Speaking of which for all you doomsayers who stocked up on your water and bought kerosene heaters for the apocolypse of Y2K, I have this to say: Hahaha you gullible fools! Y2K was a problem, but it was NEVER the problem that the media made it out to be. But of course, when people don't bother to find out the truth and just believe what Sally Jesse and Jenny Jones tell them we end up with mass hypes like the Y2K scare. *sigh*
