Busy Holiday Weekend

Ugh! Haven't had a chance to post in quite some time. Christmas? Total blast, got a buncha stuff that I like (such as a first generation Transformer, Shockwave, in the box) and a Star Wars Lego set.... SHUT UP, they're both quite fun and hellacious and it doesn't matter that I'm "too old" to enjoy those things, thank-you-very-much!!!

Ahem.

Anyway, my brother unloaded some mad literature including "Secrets of the Game Programming Guru's 1 & 2" plus a phat mathematics book. So, to compliment those I purchased "Using Visual C++ 5". Yes, I've settled on Visual C++ 5.0 for my learning endeavors. Actually, I've had a few thoughts go through my head. Since I'm not as familiar with C++ as I'd like to be, and it seems to me that Visual C++ is going to be mostly about Windows classes and whatnot... well, it seems like I'm going to have to brush up more on my straight syntax and coding before moving onto the whole visual shebang (is that actually a word?) and OOP. So, I'm beginning the search for a freeware (or GNU) compiler that I can just plain tinker with and relearn all the syntax and formatting of variable names and whatnot.
